iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak using Sn0wBreeze 2.9.5 [Windows]

Published on August 3, 2012 by in Uncategorized

Even though there is a way to jailbreak your iDevice with Absinthe 2 there are some users that are dependent on Gevey SIM and UltraSn0w and for this there is Sn0wbreeze that will create a custom firmware based on iOS 5.1.1 that will help you jailbreak your iDevice and preserv your current baseband.
This jailbreak will support only devices like iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. So do not use this tutorial on iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or the new iPad.

The following steps are intended for iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak using Sn0wBreeze 2.9.5 for Windows:

1. Download and extract Sn0wBreeze 2.9.5 preferably on your desktop.

2. Go where you have extracted the files and run sn0wbreeze-v2.9.5.exe

3. When running for the first time you will be presented with some warning messages. Press the OK button to continue.

4. Click on the blue arrow and you will get a screen with two buttons. If you have the IPSW file click Browse for an IPSW button, if not use Download iOS Firmwares button. If you choose to download one you will get a screen where you will fill with all the necessary information to start downloading the firmware and press Start Download. By now Sn0wBreeze will identify the firmware file and you can continue by click the blue arrow.

5. On the next screen you will get 4 options or should I say modes: iFaith Mode, Simple Mode, Expert Mode and Baseband Preservation Mode. For our guide we will choose Expert Mode.

6. At this screen press General then the blue arrow and you will get a screen where you can:

  • Enable Battery Percentage – will show the percentage of your battery near the battery icon
  • Activate The iPhone [Hacktivate] – activates your iPhone
  • Install SSH – helps you to see the file system of you device
  • Root Partition Size – it is wise to leave this unchanged
  • At this screen select the options that you need and hit the blue arrow.

7. At the next screen you will have the possibility to install third party apps or tweaks. If you have one or more add them and the hit the blue arrow.

8. Now we select Build IPSW and tap the blue arrow. By now sn0wbreeze will start creating our custom IPSW a process that may take from 5 min to 30 min and the file will be saved on your desktop. Meanwhile you can have some fun by playing PacMan.

9. After the process finishes we will need to enter in DFU mode in our iDevice. Press OK button and follow the instructions that will show.

10. After you have followed the instructions, iTunes will be launched and you will get from sn0wbreeze a message iREB running. Return to iTunes press and hold SHIFT key on your keyboard while clicking on Restor button on your iTunes. Now select your custom IPSW which is on your desktop. The custom IPSW will have a custom prefix like sn0wbreeze_ . When your device finishes you should have a jaibroken iDevice.

Top 20 iPhone web apps

Published on June 16, 2012 by in Uncategorized

Web apps are begging to be a new trend in the iPhone world. But why you may ask. Well web apps like their counterparts do not use local storage for storing their files, but they benefit from the Multi-Touch capabilities of the device. I would say that this is the perfect combination. Just imagine no more problems regarding free space. These apps are also fast, and they require no updates. With just push of a button you can add a shortcut to your favorite web application to your home screen. You can easily organize icons of web applications just like normal applications. There a lot of portals with web apps out there. In this list we see even Apple with an impressive collection of apps 1700 to be more exact. And the thing I like the most is that they do not require local resources. It is more of a web page with special functions.

There are a lot of know web applications running on iOS, the most known of them are Gmail, Google Docs, YouTube and more. You can even play games like Sudoku, Puck Billiards or Meteor Rain. If you can visit one of these portals you could see about what I am talking about.

Enough with the chit-chat let me give you my list with the web apps you should have.

I will start my list with 4 of the most know services available as web apps Gmail, Google Docs Mobile, Google Calendar and of course YouTube. These I consider the most important of them all. Next in line is Penzu an online personal and of course private diary. We continue with Remember The Milk and Evernote both of them create lists but Evernote is much more you can take notes, share memories. Nirvana, Facebook and Digg, lets you manage GTD tasks while the others are a Social Portal and a Social news website. If you want to know the weather WeatherBug is the right choice for you. Flip Clock is another interesting web app that you should try. If you want to access your favorite online services Launch Pad is perfect for you. If you need a word processor try Zoho Office Suite. If you are into reading I Suggest Reader and Stripr. As for games you will find the following 4 Pack Card Games, Flick BasketBall, Sudoku Superstar and Pie Guy insanely addictive.

Absinthe 2.0.4 Untethered Jailbreak for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch on IOS 5.1.1

Published on June 4, 2012 by in Jailbreak

Two months after the launch of IOS 5.1 and in less than two weeks since the launch of IOS 5.1.1, we finally have Absinthe 2.0.4 the untethered jailbreak solution for our iDevices. Using this program you can jailbreak any iDevice running iOS 5.1.1, but on iOS 5.1 you can jailbreak just the terminal launched before iPad 2. Even so, anyone can now update the IOS 5.1.1 through iTunes, so the solution can be used by anyone without problems.

Compatible terminals for iOS 5.1.1:

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPod Touch 3G
  • iPod Touch 4G
  • iPad 1
  • iPad 2
  • iPad3

Incompatible terminals:

  • Apple TV 3.

If you have an old version of IOS, you need to unlock first and want to get untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1, it is advisable to make a custom ipsw with redsn0w and use it to update. That custom ipsw keeps intact the baseband of your iDevice and it will ensure the use of the Gevey sim for unlock. Ultrasn0w is not compatible with iOS 5.1.1, but ultrasn0w Fixer for iOS 5.1.1 will give you the posibility to unlock without problems if you have an unlockable baseband.

If you already tethered jailbreak made ??iOS 5.1.1, then follow this tutorial to make untethered jailbreak using Rocky Raccoon . Absinthe does not do hacktivate, but using sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 we can make a custom ipsw activated and untethered jailbroken for iDevices launched before the iPad 2.

Step 1 Download Absinthe 2.0.4

absinthe-win-2.0.4.zip for Windows

absinthe-mac-2.0.4.dmg for Mac

absinthe-linux-2.0.4.tar.bz2 for Linux

Step 2 – optional Connect your iDevice to your computer and open iTunes. Select the iDevice from the menu on the right, and then choose the backup option to make a backup of your iDevice. After doing this go to Settings > General > Reset and choose Reset all content and settings. Choosing this option will ensure a fast jailbreaking.  Making backup is optional and is meant to reduce the time to perform jailbreaking.

Step 3 After deleting content open Absinthe 2.0.4 and you will open a window with lots of cod lines that will run for a few minutes and stop. This program practically builds the jailbreak for your iDevice and after it finishes you will see a new folder in the folder where you downloaded Absinthe executable.

Step 4 Access the executable Absinthe.exe from the new folder and click Jailbreak button then let the program do its job. After pressing the jailbreak program will begin to implement the exploit and your iDevice will go through several states, including Restore, but do not be alarmed, everything is perfectly normal. The process itself should last up to 5 minutes depending on your computer. If you have a PIN for your sim, insert it after the reset of your iDevice otherwise jailbreak will not complete.

Step 5 After the jailbreak reconnect your iDevice to your iTunes, select it from the menu on the right and choose Restore from backup (if you initially did a backup). iTunes will restore the backup made by you and that’s all. After resetting the device you should have Cydia installed and you can use it. Remember that in the days right after launch of the jailbreak solution Cydia will have poor functionality.

Untethered Jailbreak and unlock iOS 5.1.1 on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch with sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 [Windows]

Published on May 29, 2012 by in Uncategorized

Shortly after the launch of Absinthe 2.0 that is an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 , iH8sn0w published the 2.9.4 version of snowbreeze program. Using this program we can make a custom ipsw 5.1.1 jailbroken and activated for IOS and all iDevices launched by Apple before iPad 2. If you have such a device and it is encoded on a foreign network, snowbreeze and redsnow are the only programs which make untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1 because Absinthe cannot jailbreak only if your terminal is not activated.

This version of snowbreeze is compatible with:

- iPhone 3Gs – regardless of the BOOTROM
- iPhone 4
- iPad 1
- iPod Touch 3G
- iPod Touch 4G

snowbreeze 2.9.4 makes untethered jailbreak for the following versions of IOS:

- Supports iOS 3.1.3
- Supports iOS 3.2.x
- Supports iOS 4.0.x
- Supports iOS 4.1
- Supports iOS 4.2.1 – 4.2.8
- Supports iOS 4.3 – 4.3.3
- Supports iOS 5.0.1
- Supports iOS 5.1.1

iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3 are not compatible with the current version of snowbreeze, but the rest of iDevices can use untethered jailbreak on all iOS versions listed above.

If you need a unlock made with Gevey for iPhone 4, then ??a custom IPSW  made with snowbreeze it will keep intact your baseband and still let you use Gevey sims. iPhone 4S terminals can be decoded with the latest version of Gevey Ultra S, therefore you should not have problems. iPhone 3GS terminals with decodable baseband with ultrasn0w will maintain their baseband if you use a custom IPSW made ??with snowbreeze. After installing the iOS 5.1.1 should install ultrasn0w Fixer to make the decoding because ultrasn0w from Cydia is not compatible with the latest version of IOS.

Recently Apple released build 9B208 for the GSM iPhone 4 . If you have that build installed in your terminal you can not use untethered jailbreak yet. You can check your iOS build in Settings > General > About > Version. Absinthe 2.0.2 makes jailbreak for that build of iPhone 4, but snowbreeze is not yet compatible with it.

Remember that snowbreeze 2.9.4 works only on Windows.

Follow these steps to jailbreak:

Step 1

Snowbreeze 2.9.5 Download  here(LINK > http://zaone.info/30).

IOS 5.1.1 Download here(LINK > http://www.idevice.ro/tabel-jailbreak-si-decodare/) . You can also have option to download the latest version of the iOS directly into snowbreeze.

Download the latest version of iTunes from Apple’s site.

Step 2

If necessary, change the file extension of the firmware downloaded at step 1 from .zip to .ipsw (if needed). If you are on Windows Vista / 7 then right click on snowbreeze and select Run as Administrator. You will receive a warning not to distribute the program, press ok then press the blue button to continue. On Windows XP snowbreeze it will not working properly and will not recommend to use it.

Step 3

Now you will get a screen asking you to search the computer where you saved the iOS 5.1.1 file, after the program checks the file the ok mark will appear, then press the blue button to continue. iH8sn0w tried to implement a method of drag & drop for files but unfortunately it does not work properly so I recommend you avoid it.

Step 4

The program has for old iDevices 3 working options: Simple Mode, Expert Mode and Baseband Preservation Mode. Simple Mode will make your custom IPSW based on some default settings, and Expert Mode enables you to customize anything you want to insert into the firmware, in this tutorial I will explain the Expert Mode. Baseband Preservation Mode allows you to make a custom ipsw without jailbreak but not update the baseband.

In the case of iPhone 4 we see a fourth option called iFaith Mode which allows us to select a saved SHSH with iFaith to make a custom ipsw with him. That SHSH can be used to restore only that version of iOS.

Step 5

Now we come to something more complicated. In this screen snowbreeze will display the options you have to configure the firmware, General option is one that takes you through all the other so we will select it. Select General then click the blue button to continue.

Step 6

Now you will get to a screen with 4 options available different from previous versions. The first is the Enable Battery Percentage which enables the option to see the percentage of battery, the second option allows the hacktivision of the terminal, the third allows us to install OpenSSH which will grant access to system files of the terminal through Wi-Fi and the fourth is the Root Partition size to allows us to select the space for the shared drive system, I recommend you leave the value there. Press the blue button to continue.

Step 7

If you have an iPhone 3Gs in the next screen you will be able to update to the iPad baseband that allows you to decode an unlockable baseband. snowbreeze will automatically install the iPad baseband if you are connected to the Internet after you install the custom ipsw you can install ultrasn0w and you can use the terminal. My advice is to not install the iPad baseband because you will lose the ability to use integrated GPS terminal forever. You can not downgrade the baseband ever and you will have problems when you make a restore to newer versions of iOS.

Step 8

Now you will get the menu where you can select applications from Cydia  from your computer to be automatically installed in ipsw. Select from computer the desired .deb files by using the browse option then press the blue button to continue.

Step 9

After selecting the files you will arrive to the main menu where you must select Build IPSW to start the process where you’ve made the custom ipsw.

After pressing the blue button you get a menu where you can choose if you want to play Pacman or see classic wheel.

To play Pacman you must have Flash installed, unfortunately for me it didn’t worked although I have flash installed so you can play with the option to see if it works.

Step 10

Now press the OK button to enter the terminal in Pwned DFU Mode using snowbreeze. It is very important to follow the steps below. Plug the terminal to the PC.

First turn off your device.

- hold Power button for 3 seconds;

- holding down the Power button press Home button and hold it pressed for 10 seconds;

- release the Power button and hold Home button and the terminal will enter into DFU Mode.

Step 11

After you completed the proccess open iTunes, hold down Shift on your keyboard while click restore and select the custom IPSW made ??by snowbreeze, should have a name similar to the 4-5.1.1.ipsw snowbreeze_iPhone and would be on your desktop.

After the restore of your terminal own you should boot without problems.

Now your device has untethered jailbreak and can reboot no matter how you close it.
